BNP to discuss membership changes

The British National Party is set to discuss changing its constitution so its membership rules do not discriminate on the grounds of race or religion.

The move comes as delegates are expected to begin the party's two-day annual conference. But the BNP is refusing to disclose the location for fear that proceedings may be disrupted by protesters.

The event is believed to be taking place in Wigan.

Voting members could decide today to implement the changes to the BNP constitution in line with the recent Equality Bill.

On Sunday, BNP leader Nick Griffin is expected to address the conference and delegates will discuss policy.

Last month the party made headlines as the recently elected MEP for the North West appeared on the BBC's political debate programme, Question Time.
