TROUBLE actress Lindsay Lohan has been arrested in New York accused of a hit and run accident.

Police said Lohan was held at 2.25am on Wednesday as she left a Manhattan nightclub. Officers said no alcohol was involved.

Lohan was charged with leaving the scene of an accident and causing injury. She was given a ticket and will have to appear in court at a later date.

Police say she was driving slowly through an alley when she struck a pedestrian.

The victim was treated at a hospital for a knee injury and released.
