SUPERSTORM Sandy slammed into the US coastline and hurled a record-breaking 13ft surge of seawater at New York City.
At least 13 people are reported to have died as 80mph winds lashed the east coast of America.
More the 5.7 million people are without power and 1990 firefighters are tackling the blaze in the Breezy Point area of Queens which has destroyed at least 50 homes.
Americans have taken to social media sites in their millions, sharing amazing pictures and video as the bunker down and wait for the superstorm to pass.
