Apple core litter case dropped by council

A young mother who had been charged with throwing an apple core out of the window of her car in Wolverhampton city centre has had the case against her dropped.

Kate Badger had been accused of knowingly causing the deposit of controlled waste on land which did not have a waste management licence.

The case against the 26-year-old mother of three came before Wolverhampton Crown Court today for a pre-trial review with her hearing expected to start next week.

But Mr Richard Dewsberry appearing for Wolverhampton City Council said that after giving the matter full consideration they had decided to offer no evidence against Miss Badger.

Judge Nicholas Webb then formally found her not guilty and said, "I am pleased to see that common sense has prevailed."

Miss Badger, of Tettenhall, Wolverhampton, did not appear before the Judge - had always maintained her innocence on the charge and she had described the prosecution as "ridiculous."
