James Hughes inquest opens
An inquest into the death of a severely disabled Redditch man whose decomposed remains were found in a suitcase at his family home was opened today.
The body of James Arran Hughes, 22, was found hidden among other items in the garden of his mother and stepfather's house in the Church Hill area of the town last Wednesday.
Two days earlier, Mr Hughes's mother, Heather Wardle, 39, was found dead in nearby woodland with a ligature around her neck.
Mr Hughes's stepfather, Brian Kirby, and a youth were freed without charge last week after being questioned on suspicion of James's murder.
Police are currently treating both deaths as unexplained.
At the hearing today, Geraint Williams, the coroner for Worcestershire, heard the brief circumstances of the death and adjourned the inquest for reports.
