Birmingham man denies terrorism charge

A Birmingham man has pleaded not guilty to a charge of preparing to commit acts of terrorism.

Hassan Tabbakh, 38, who is of Syrian origin, denied a single count brought under the Terrorism Act during a brief appearance at Birmingham Crown Court.

The charge alleges that Tabbakh prepared for terrorist acts on or before December 18 last year by obtaining chemicals and "compiling and retaining" a document with instructions for making explosive devices.

Tabbakh, formerly of Camelot Way, Small Heath, was remanded in custody and will stand trial in the city in July.
