Driver and dog survive cliff fall
A man and his pet dog have escaped death after plunging nearly 200ft down a remote cliff face in a 4x4 car.
The driver suffered two broken legs and abdominal injuries when his Vauxhall Frontera fell half-way town a 120m high drop at Chapman’s Pool, near Swanage, Dorset.
The alarmed was raised when a man moored on a nearby motor cruiser, heard the man’s shouts for help and alerted Portland Coastguard at around 8.45am on Sunday.
The 42-year-old man was then winched to safety and airlifted by coastguard helicopter to Poole General Hospital. He was expected to be operated on.
A Portland Coastguard spokesman said the man’s dog, a black New Zealand sheepdog named Zin Zan could not be located by rescue workers, but later made its own way home and was found underneath the kitchen table.
