New mother Janine Ball is celebrating after giving birth to a new year baby she feared she would never have. Her daughter Freya Edwards was one of the first to be born in the region in 2009 at Birmingham’s Heartlands Hospital at 1.26am yesterday, weighing 5lbs 8oz. Almost a year ago to the day, her mother was left heart-broken when her first child, a boy, died after being born prematurely at 22 weeks. His death was caused by a condition called Lupus, which attacks the mother’s immune system and meant the baby was unable to grow properly. “I had no idea I had the condition until it was too late,” said the 23-year-old from Castle Bromwich.
