Two arrested after gyrocopter crashes and kills hunt supporter

Two people are being quizzed by police after the gyrocopter they were travelling in hit and killed a keen hunt supporter in Warwickshire.

Trevor Morse

Trevor Morse died after he was hit by the light aircraft at Long Marston airfield near Stratford-upon-Avon, as he followed a hunt on Monday afternoon.

Two people were arrested on suspicion of murder after the incident, which happened just after 3pm, police said.

Hunt master Sam Butler paid tribute to Mr Morse and said a gyrocopter had been following the Warwickshire hunt.

Emergency services were called to the scene to reports of a collision involving an aircraft and a pedestrian, believed to be in his 40s, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

On Monday night, Mr Morse's partner Caroline Morse, speaking at their home in Alderminster, near Stratford, confirmed he had died in the incident.

Mr Butler said: "It is a tragic, fatal accident, our first and foremost thoughts are with Trevor's family and we must wait for the facts and the truth ourselves.

"He was a very great supporter, a passionate believer in country sports and hunting and the tribute I pay is not only to him but to his family."

Mr Butler said a gyrocopter had been following hunts in the area for the last two or three weeks but refused to speculate as to why.

Long Marston airfield, an RAF base between 1941 and 1954, is now home to the Avon Microlight club, Freedom Sports Aviation, and the Shakespeare County Raceway Dragstrip.

Det Ch Insp Adrian McGee said: "I can confirm that we are dealing with an incident at Long Marston airfield involving a gyrocopter and that sadly a man has died as a result of the incident. It is far too early to tell what has occurred at the airfield at this stage."
