Cannabis 'factory' found in Solihull house
Hundreds of cannabis plants have been found growing in a plush house in a Solihull.
The property’s owner made the discovery when he visited the house in Warwick Road, Solihull, to measure up for refurbishments.
But as he pushed open a bedroom door, the man was stunned to find hundreds of cannabis plants lined up in rows under growing lamps.
A source said the detached property had been rented out since Christmas to a family.
It is thought as many as 400 cannabis plants were found in the address, opposite Solihull School and near the junction with Park Avenue.
The raid came a day after police revealed they had smashed a record number of cannabis factories hidden away in suburban homes across the West Midlands last year.
According to new figures, 174 cannabis factories were found in the region in 2004 but this rocketed to 672 – or almost two a day – by the end of last year.
In many cases family-style homes had been rented out and transformed into factories under the noses of unsuspecting neighbours.
