No party to mark Birmingham City's promotion

Birmingham City Football Club has announced it will not be holding a celebration after the team was promoted back into the Premiership - because they did not win the Championship.

A club spokeswoman said the players have already left for their holidays. She said: “If we had won the Championship, it might have been different but the players have gone on a well-earned rest.

“We would like to thank all our fans for their support.”

More than 2,000 travelling fans made the journey on Sunday to watch Blues beat Reading 2-1 at the Madejski Stadium to book their return to the country’s top flight.
