City education boss reveals plans to improve caring services

Social workers will spend more time helping vulnerable children and less time sitting in front of a computer under an improvement plan for Birmingham’s caring services.
City education boss Tony Howell said yesterday that children’s social services were in the process of being re-designed in order to address Government concerns about the city council’s failure to protect youngsters at risk of abuse.
Earlier this year ministers ordered the council to improve after Ofsted said services for vulnerable children were not good enough.
