Landlord of The Rainbow pub blasts Birmingham City Council
The landlord of The Rainbow Pub has lashed out at the council’s decision to serve a noise abatement order despite his pledge to invest thousands of pounds to soundproof the venue.
Kent Davis said he had received a phone call from Birmingham City Council’s Environmental Protection Unit telling him they had decided to serve the venue with a noise abatement order.
The move comes after several months of discussions with the council which have seen The Rainbow sign an undertaking to limit volumes and pledge to spend £30,000 to £40,000 on building a roof over its courtyard to stop noise escaping from the venue.
Mr Davis said: “I haven’t physically picked it up yet but I had a phone call on Friday telling us they have reached a decision and they will serve a noise abatement order.
Mr Kent said he was angry that although The Rainbow had promised to take the soundproofing steps, the city council would not grant a period of grace while he waits for planning permission and the building work to be carried out.
He believes the noise abatement order stems from a complaint from one person living in the nearby Abacus Apartments.
