Landlord of The Rainbow pub blasts Birmingham City Council
“It goes back to the zealous way I think they apply this law,” he said.
“Had they spoken to them [the complainant] and said ‘we have got a commitment from The Rainbow where they will put an end to the problem but can you bear with us’ then I’m sure any reasonable person would have said fine.
“That’s what I would have expected to happen, particularly knowing what a sensitive subject this area is and the fact we have 20,000 people on the Save the Rainbow Facebook group.”
“I have got a meeting with Clive Dutton and Jacqui Kennedy from the council and I was hoping that any decision would be put off until that meeting and we could come up with a sensible solution as a result of that.
“I absolutely vow to contest it, even though the scope of us raising funds to do the things they wanted to do has now been reduced.”
Meanwhile the Rainbow Warehouse, the pub’s sister venue, will find out later today whether its licence will be suspended or revoked because of police complaints of a breach of licensing laws at an event last year.
