Andrea Bocelli says sorry to Birmingham fans after NIA cancellation
Vocalist Andrea Bocelli has apologised to the thousands of fans who were left disappointed after the last minute cancellation of his Birmingham concert.
Mr Bocelli said he knew the decision to postpone the concert at the National Indoor Arena last month had been a ‘disappointment’ but he could not sing due to bronchitis.
Audience members, many of whom had travelled hundreds of miles to see the Italian tenor perform live, were only told the concert was cancelled at 7.30pm - as the music was about to begin.
Although the news was initially met with a round of applause, fans then inundated the Birmingham Post telephone lines and websites to complain about the late notice. But Bocelli said he had been left with no choice.
“Sometimes things can happen,” the 51-year-old tenor said. “I had a problem and this was the first time in my life that I have had to cancel a concert for bronchitis. I prefer to cancel a concert than sing very badly.
"I hope that most of the people can come back to the new date and above all that I will be well and they will be leaving with a good memory. For people who cannot be there, I am very sorry.”
Mr Bocelli who has sold more than 65 million albums worldwide, said he is confident he will be fit by the rescheduled date of November 4. He said: “I will do all I can in order to make up for last time.”
