Robbers attack Barclays security guard in Redditch
Police are appealing for witnesses and information after a security guard was robbed of a substantial amount of cash at Barclays in Redditch.
The guard was pushed to the floor from behind by two men who grabbed the grey plastic bag containing cash that he had taken into the bank at Threadneedle House, Alcester Street, at around 1.30pm on Tuesday.
The robbers, two black men wearing dark coloured caps and dark clothing, then ran from the building down to the underpass by the Palace Theatre towards Millsborough House and Ipsley Street.
Police are currently searching around the town centre and have sealed off the area around the bank down to the underpass. The bank has been closed while forensic examinations are carried out and officers are interviewing staff and a number of customers who witnessed the robbery.
Detective Inspector Brian Russell said: "At this time there are no indications of any weapons being involved or anyone being threatened and no-one including the security guard has been injured.
"We particularly want to hear from anyone who may have seen the offenders near the underpass immediately afterwards and any vehicle they may have got into.
"Likewise, although we have spoken to some witnesses we want to hear from anyone else who may have seen any suspicious activity outside the bank at the time of the robbery or beforehand."
