
The body of a woman found hidden beneath the floorboards of a Birmingham house has been identified as that of a missing teenage mum.
Detectives broke the news to the heartbroken family of Nicole Cartmell after she was formally identified on Friday.
Detectives were waiting on the results of further tests after a post-mortem examination failed to determine the cause of the 18-year-old’s death.
Miss Cartmell was reported missing by relatives on February 14 after she failed to return to her family home in West Bromwich.
Police made the grim discovery on Wednesday when they went to a terraced house in Whatley Road, Handsworth, to question a man on suspicion of fraudulently using Ms Cartmell’s bank cards.
A 20-year-old man arrested at the premises on suspicion of murder has been sectioned under the Mental Health Act. An 18-year-old man also arrested was released on police bail pending further enquiries.
She had given birth to a baby boy, named Callum, in January. He is now being cared for by family members.
