TWO men were shot last night in an incident on a road near to the West Bromwich Albion football ground.
The men have both detained in hospital in a "stable" condition after sustaining gunshot wounds in the incident at Middlemore Road, on the border of Smethwick and Handsworth.
Neither has life threatening injuries.
One nearby resident, who did not wish to be named, said the shootings had happened outside a party in the Woody’s Auto Repairs and carwash yard in Middlemore Road.
“They were having a party up there. I heard the music myself last night. I think quite a lot of us complained to the police about it. They’re a real pain.
“The first I knew about the shooting was this morning, but I’m not surprised about it.”
Another neighbour said the party had been family orientated and was mostly attended by members of the Afro-Carribean community.
“They put a note through our door last week saying there was going to be a party starting at lunchtime and it was going to be going on until 2.30am.
"They said we were all invited, there was about five or six hundred people went to it.
“All the cars was double parked on the street and the music was very loud.
"The police were going past every now and then but they didn’t break up the party until about 11pm. That’s when everyone left in a bit of a hurry.”
A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "At this early stage the motive for the shooting and the precise circumstances are unclear.
"The immediate location at Middlemore Road remains sealed off this morning for forensic examination."
Police enquiries are ongoing.
