Man arrested on suspicion of murder after Erdington house fire

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a fatal house fire in Birmingham.

More than 25 firefighters tackled the blaze at a terraced house on Church Road, Erdington, at 9pm on Thursday.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “One man was found inside the property by the fire service.

"Sadly nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead on scene."

Shortly after 9pm a man arrived at Erdington police station with burns to his hands and face. It is thought the man had been injured in the same fire.

Ambulance crews treated the man's wounds before taking him to hospital for further assessment and treatment.

Police said a 32-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of murder.
