A national campaign in support of the Government’s £32 billion high speed rail plan has been launched, with outspoken support from Birmingham Airport.

The airport’s Head of Government Affairs, John Morris, hit out at opponents of HS2, claiming that they were being led by country gentry.
The Campaign For High Speed Rail website quotes Mr Morris as saying: “The Buckinghamshire squierarchy throwing millions at QCs are seeking to turn national opinion against something that will have enormous impact on the North and the Midlands.
“We need additional rail capacity that will better integrate our cities and existing transport hubs. Being high speed is the icing on the cake.
“We cannot continue to have a divided economy. The Crossrail project in London is investing the same each year as would be invested in the whole UK every year with HS2.
"This is despite London already receiving three times as much support per capita for transport than the rest of the UK.
“I can take anyone who questions the value of such investment around Birmingham and show how HS2 might influence people’s life chances.
“I started work in inner city Birmingham over 30 years ago, and this is the first truly innovative investment that will bring about transformational change.
